The prophet of Islam is Called Mohammad and its holy book is Qoran. Mohammad
was living in Arabia in the 7th century AD.
Basic beliefs of Islam are
1. There is one god and he has no associate
2. Mohammad is his prophet and is also the last prophet
3. In the judgement day, god will judge all according to their actions
Islam recognizes Judaism, Christianity, and Zoroastrianism as divinely
inspired religions and believes that salvation is not based on nationality
or gender or ethnicity.
Branches of Islam
Islam has two main branches, they are called:
The main difference between the two branches began after Mohammad's death,
some people believed that his father-in-law, Abu Bakr, should become the
leader of the Islamic state (not religion) and some others believed that
it should be Ali, Mohammed's cousin and son-in-law who should lead the
Muslims in both political and spiritual matters. The first group became
to be known as Sunnies and the second are Shi'its. Later after the death
of both Ali and Abu Bakr, the two group became more and more different
and they began to develop a lot of fundamental disagreements. Today, Iran
is the only Islamic country who has the Shi'ism as its official religion.
